Ottoman art combines the decorative arts consisting of calligraphy, miniature painting and illustrated scripts, filigree works with Byzantine and Persian motifs on metal objects (bronze, brass, copper, etc.), carpet weaving and textile art. At its height, the Ottoman Empire (ca.1299-1922) spread from Anatolia and the Caucasus through North Africa to Syria, Arabia and Iraq. As a result, Byzantine, Mamluk and Persian traditions integrated and eventually formed a distinct Ottoman art and art vocabulary.
